"Crapemyrtle Evaluation" Crape Myrtle" Crepe-myrtle" However you spell them, they are one of the most widely planted shrubs or small trees in the Southeast. This versatile plant, with its long-blooming flowers and interesting mottled winter bark is popular for a reason. There are literally hundreds of named selections with various colors, growth habits and mature sizes to choose from. Weather permitting; seminar participants will visit the Crepemyrtle trials at the Georgia Mountain Research & Education Center. Our Speaker: Dr. Kristine Braman has been a Professor with the University of Georgia, Department of Entomology since 2001. Her research focus is on the ecology and management of insect pests of turf and ornamental plants. She co-authored several of the chapters in the Georgia Master Gardener Handbook, including Basic Entomology, Diagnosing Plant Problems: Ornamentals and Turf, and Diagnosing Fruit and Vegetable Problems. Her research at the Georgia Mountain Research & Education Center includes evaluation of forty-one Crepemyrtle varieties and evaluation of Canna Lilies for insect resistance.
