Buzzard Mountain Boys - Mountain, Bluegrass, Comedy
Friday, August 8, in the Old Courthouse on the Square in Blairsville. These fellows are one of the most popular groups in north Georgia, especially with those who are interested in the history and evolvement of music in this area. The concert will begin at 7:00 PM.
Joe Bob and Jim Bob are the Bob Brothers and they are the Buzzard Mountain Boys. These two guys play an amusing selection of Brother Duet, Old-Time music, and early Bluegrass inspired songs, interspersed with enough corny humor to warm your heart and take you back to the days of the traveling minstrels! Both musicians are residents of Lumpkin County and are fixtures in the North Georgia traditional music community. They are heavily involved in the promotion of Appalachian Music in the region.
Joe Bob is an accomplished mandolin, guitar, and tenor-banjo player. His Monroe style mandolin breaks and fiery banjo strumming will set your toes to tapping. He has played in several bluegrass, old-time and gospel ensembles through the years.
Jim Bob, considered the purity one of the two brothers, plays a lively fiddle and sets the rhythm with his solid six-string guitar work.
Jim Bob is the chairman of the Bear on the Square Mountain Festival, a charter board member and president of the Georgia Pick and Bow Traditional Music School Program, an advisory board member of the Appalachian Studies Center of NGCSU. He co-produces Dahlonega's own Mountain Music and Medicine Show, staged at the Historic Holly Theater, enjoying regular monthly airing on Georgia Public Radio.
Brother duet harmony is the Buzzard Mountain Boys' forte and takes you back to the roots of bluegrass and rockabilly. A sprinkling of good-natured humor peppers their performances.
The summer concerts in the Old Courthouse on the Square are presented by the Union County Historical Society as a public service and to keep alive the tradition of music in the old building. There is never a q required admission charge to the concerts. The musicians donate their time and talents. Voluntary donations to the maintenance fund are always welcomed and appreciated.
