Tri County Women’s Connection: The Great American Total Eclipse of the Sun Tri-County Women’s Connection presents Blairsville-Union County’s Chamber of Commerce and their Tourism Director, Tobie Chandler, at our luncheon Wednesday, August 2nd. Get ready to learn about a once in a lifetime experience - witnessing a total eclipse of the sun! The moon moves in front of the sun covering it completely; the sky will darken; the stars come out; the horizon will glow with a 360 degree sunset; the temperature drops; and the day will turn to night – wow! - all in 1 minute and 58 seconds on August 21st. This solar eclipse is called the “Great American Eclipse” because the moon’s shadow will make its way across the entire continental U. S. Not since 1918 (and not again until 2316) has a solar eclipse traversed the entire landmass of the United States while touching no other land masses on the planet! And we are in the “Path of Totality,” from central Oregon through South Carolina, so we will see the eclipse in its totality. Safety warning – do not attempt to look at partial phases of the eclipse without proper eye protection. (Eclipse safety glasses are available for purchase at the Chamber.) The Chamber is preparing to welcome as many as 8 to 10 thousand potential “eclipse chasers.” Tobie will share more information with us, news about upcoming festivals, tourism, events, and other surprises! Don’t miss this luncheon! Tobie has been with the Chamber for six years and Director of Tourism for the last three. She loves marketing and promoting Blairsville – the best place to live, work and play! Tobie is a Certified Tourism Marketing Professional and President of the Northeast Georgia Mountains Travel Association. She has been married for almost fourteen years and has a 7 year old daughter. She enjoys cooking, family, and geo-caching - local treasure hunts! Next, musically gifted Adam and Julie McPherson of Blairsville will blend their beautiful voices in song. Adam and Julie have a son, Luke Anthony, and are employed by Panel Built and Nationwide Insurance, respectively. The luncheon program concludes with “When All Else Fails, Read The Directions!” These are words of wisdom from Clemson University Career Center’s recent retiree (and shag dancer), Arlene Grimes of Anderson, SC. Arlene tells us how she had her life planned out until it wasn’t. Please join us on August 2nd at Monet’s, 130 Blue Ridge Street, Blairsville.
