Blairsville is for Lovers

Blairsville-Union County offers the best of Appalachia for lovers. From the travel lover, to the nature lover, to the tasting lover, to the food lover, this North Georgia community is the best day or weekend getaway where affordability meets distance and elegant standards meet casual hospitality. Plan your trip around these highlights, and we’re pretty confident you’ll fall in love with this gem at the top of the state. Blairsville is truly the town for lovers.
TASTING LOVERS
Jack “Mimm” McClure, an Appalachian moonshiner crafted bootleg spirits for the folks of North Georgia. His Grandson, country musician Tommy Townsend, decided to recreate those legendary corn whiskey recipes on stills designed by Grandaddy Mimm. Known for their velvety flow and smooth finish, both the moonshine and the newest addition, Owltown Vodka come in a variety of flavors such as citrus, raspberry guava, blackberry, peach, apple brown betty, and the infamous mule kickin 140. Plan your Valentines weekend to include a stop at the distillery in the newly renovated Goldkist building just off the historic Union County Square. It's the perfect pre or post dinner stop for spirits. Offering tastings, one-of-a-kind mixed drinks, and shots of their site distilled fare, Grandaddy Mimms is the perfect spot for toasting Valentines.
Just south of Blairsville, Paradise Hills Winery pours award winning Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Reisling, Chardonnel, Traminette, and Sangiovese wines. Known for their motto, “From Grapes to Glass,” Paradise Hills vineyard stretches across forty acres of the Appalachian mountains. Each wine has the rich, earthy tone born of Georgia’s red clay with a European flare making every sip one lovers will surely savor. Vintner, Bob Lander, takes pride in personally tending his vines, and if you’re lucky, you’ll get to chat with him or wife, Ilke about the process. Plan your Valentines weekend to include a tasting at the Lodge and live music at Couples Crush. Should you need accommodations or even spa services, these are also available onsite. Book early and plan to linger long over the vast mountain views and native Georgia wines.
If you like a casual approach to wine, you will love the approach of winemaker Eric Seifarth from Crane Creek Vineyards. Having fallen in love with wine during his days as a young army officer in Northern Italy. Featuring small-lot fermentation from selective hand-picked grapes from more than twenty acres of vineyards, Crane Creek offers French American hybrid varieties such as Chambourcin, Vidal Blanc, and Seyval Blanc in addition to Europeans wines such as Gruner Veltliner and Cabernet Franc. Additionally, they offer native American wines Norton and Catawba making their portfolio a global sampling. Bring your Valentine for a tasting and plan to stay for dinner on site at the elegant Paris & Company offering fine cuisine. (Pro Tip: Make reservations!)
A winery offering vintages from a family whose roots run deep in Appalachian farming, Odom Springs uses the fertile soil to grow grapes that produce award winning wines such as Seyval Blanc, Chardonnay, Chambourcin, Vidal Blanc, and more. Acres of vineyards tended by family hands won’t disappoint. It is Valentine’s, so we must recommend you ask for Naughty, an oaky red made from Norton grapes that laced in vanilla tones and a velvety finish. Lodge Rentals are available on site should you wish to extend your visit for the weekend. (Pro Tip: They love when you ask about Chianti the Cat!)
