Recreation and Waterfalls

Yet the three gorgeous, thundering waterfalls – Helton Creek Falls, Trahlyta Falls, and DeSoto Falls – located just outside of Blairsville – really take the cake.

Helton Creek Falls Trail has an easy, 0.2-mile hike. This lower fall drops over a 30” ledge, tumbling to a pool below. The second upper falls are tall, full falls, that drop at least 60 feet – it’s an unbelievable view. Strap on your hiking boots, pack your camelback, and set out for an afternoon adventure – and grab your photographer and find the perfect backdrop to make your wedding album the talk of your friend group. Trahlyta Falls waterfall can be found at Vogel State Park, spilling from the park’s Trahlyta Lake. This stepping-stone waterfall falls 40 feet. The trail to reach the falls is a one-mile loop, offering a plethora of photo opportunities. It can be a little steep, but it’s short, and well worth the effort. DeSoto Falls, named after the Spanish explorer Hernando De Soto, has two levels. The upper, and most scenic falls, drop 80 feet, while the lower falls cascade around 20 feet. Located in rugged mountains, with impeccable views, elevations in this 650-acre area vary between 2,000 and 3,400 feet.
