Come Home For The Holidays (even if you live here)

Come Home For The Holidays (even if you live here)

The soundtrack of the holiday season starts to stream in my mind just about this time every year.  Age-old refrains like I’m dreaming of a white Christmas and Silent night, holy night sound softly in the background of my mind.  Perhaps though, the one that resounds most is the lyric, I’ll be home for Christmas.  As a Georgia-born, Georgia-raised gal, my southern, small-town roots run deep, so when I met a man from Canada and moved north of the border, those lyrics took on great meaning.

That first Christmas, knee deep in frigid Ontario snow and miles away from family, there was no place I would have rathered be than home.  Home in Blairsville, Georgia.  As newlyweds, we decorated an 18 inch artificial tree with 2 strings of lights and a couple strands of dollar store beads and found a way to make our first holiday season together special.
Years have passed since the early Christmas.  We have long since moved back to our beloved North Georgia mountains in Union County, and I have learned one thing along the way: everyone longs for home—especially at the holidays.  Sometimes going home actually means getting away with the ones you love so your heart can leave the frantic frenzy of regular living and engage with
the people who matter most.
Other times it means rediscovering the rich depths of opportunities right in your own backdoor.  Whether you’re visiting Blairsville for a weekend getaway or you’ve called this northern tip of Georgia yours for some time, we invite you to experience the beauty of a hometown Christmas, even if only for a weekend.
From breakfast with Santa at the Chamber Holly Jolly Christmas to an unforgettable evening downtown on the square under the glow of vintage lampposts draped in greenery with carolers heralding the season softly in the background to chopping your own Christmas tree, to shopping at the Kris Kringle market, Blairsville promises to deliver the magic of Hallmark without the hurry of holiday crowds or harrowing heavy traffic and long lines.  Please, come home for Christmas; we promise you’ll be glad you did.
