SUMMARY:Tri-County Women's Connection Luncheon & Program
DESCRIPTION:Honoring Those Who Serve and Protect As Veterans Day approaches\, this is a perfect time for the Tri-County Women's Connection to thank a couple for their service to the United States. On Wednesday\, November 5\, we are privileged to honor Matthieu and Sheena Murdock for their distinguished service in the U.S. Army. This presentation by our local Quilt of Valor team of Linda and Jim Gorman will be held at Monet's Caf in Blairsville. Our Program begins promptly at noon with registration from 11:15 until 11:50 a.m. Reservations required\, see details below. Wear your Red\, White and Blue and don't miss this moving ceremony and a chance to personally thank two local heroes. Matthieu J. Murdock served in the US Army in both Afghanistan and Iraq with the 82nd Airborne Division from FT. Bragg\, NC\, 2002-2004. He served again in Iraq with the 101st Airborne from Ft Campbell\, KY from 2005-2006. Sheena Murdock joined the US Army Sept 11\, 2001. She served from 2005-2006 in Iraq with the 101st Airborne Division. Matt and Sheena now own and operate the Bearding Bottle Shop on the Square in Blairsville. The Mission of the Quilts of Valor Foundation is to cover veterans who have been touched by war with a comforting and healing Patriotic Quilt. The Foundation is an all volunteer\, grassroots organization started in 2003 by Catherine Roberts\, whose son was serving in Iraq. The idea of honoring our veterans by presenting a handmade quilt has spread across the United States to tens of thousands of quilters\, and into other countries where military families are stationed and are stitching quilts. We have presented over 106\,000 patriotic quilts for our brave American Heroes\, here in the United States and across the world in ICU Units and multinational hospitals caring for our wounded. Ms. Roberts stepped down as Executive Director\, last year\, and our new Executive Director is Susan Gordon\, from Lawrenceville\, GA. Susan is certainly a strong advocate for our Foundation and has enthusiastically taken on the position. More information on the Quilts of Valor may be found at www.qovf.org/ or by using a search engine and typing in Quilts of Valor. Through the writing and speaking of our Guest Speaker Penny Hunt from Trenton\, SC\, she has entertained\, educated and equipped audiences of all ages with the tools they need to successfully navigate the choppy waters of change and surprises of life. She is the wife of a retired career naval officer and attach \, and mother of five (yours\, mine and ours!). With wisdom\, warmth and humor\, Penny's authentic and meaningful message has enlightened audiences at home and abroad with stories and life lessons taken from the Eiffel Tower to the cell tower in her own back yard. She is the author of an Amazon.com bestselling children's book: Little White Squirrel's Secret dedicated to her severely autistic granddaughter. At our luncheon\, Penny will take us through the story of the Three Gold Rings based on the response of three military wives to the sudden and devastating change that impacts their lives. Make your reservation by Monday\, November 3 and get ready for a patriotic afternoon at Monet's Caf \, 130 Blue Ridge Street\, Blairsville. The cost of $11 includes door prizes\, lunch with coffee or tea\, dessert\, tax & tip\, cash or check.
