The National Alzheimer's Association's annual "Walk to End Alzheimer's" will be held in downtown Blue Ridge October 8, 2011. Festivities will begin at 9:30 am. Walk to End Alzheimer's Walk is the nation's premier fundraiser to help those battling Alzheimer's disease. Since 1989, Walk's around the country has raised more than $270 million for programs and services for individuals with Alzheimer's and other dementias, their families and caregivers.

Please walk with us, along with your family, friends and colleagues to raise dollars and voices in support of those living with Alzheimer's disease.

Every 69 seconds someone in America is diagnoised with Alzheimer's or dementia.  It is the sixth leading cause of death. 

In 2011 there will be half million NEW cases every year of Alzheimer’s disease.  This year baby boomers turn 65 and there will be 10 thousand diagnosed every day. 

Between 2000 – 2008:   Deaths increased by 66% in Alzheimer’s disease
                                            Deaths decreased by 11.1% in heart disease
                                            Deaths decreased by 2.6% in Breast Cancer
                                            Deaths decreased by 8.7% in Prostate Cancer
                                            Deaths decreased by 18.2% in Strokes
                                            Deaths decreased by 16.3% in HIV/Aids

Every 79.5 cents of every dollar donated goes towards research, support groups, literature, caring connection, education for caregivers and their families. The remaining 20.5 cents goes to administrative costs. The money raised in North Georgia stays in Georgia. Alzheimer’s disease leaves NO Survivors. Alzheimer’s disease has NO CURE.
