The Hiawassee River Watershed Coalition is again offering single-day water quality camps for youth that will be entering the 6th, 7th or 8th grades in the fall. The purpose of C.R.E.E.K. - which stands for Creative Recreational and Environmental Education for Kids - is to educate young people about basic water quality science. Identical camps will be offered from 9:00-3:00 on July 9th at Riverbend Campground in Towns County, Ga., July 11th at Meeks Park in Union County Ga., July 25th at Konehete Park in Murphy, N.C. and July 26th at the Rivercane Walk on the John C. Campbell Folk School in Brasstown, N.C. Each camp is oriented near a stream or river so that students may have hands-on experience conducting environmental research, identifying native plants, observing and cataloging native fish populations, and conducting water quality experiments. Campers will also have several projects that they can bring home and share with friends and family.
