Sunday, July 15, 2012 the new Art of Gold Gallery in Young Harris, GA, will have five artists displaying samples of their work through September 4th.
The Gallery is open Monday through Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. in conjunction with The Gold Academy, a gold buying business located in the same building.
The Artist of the Month is Carol Duckworth originally from Atlanta, GA who has been living in Blairsville for many years. Her vivid pastels and watercolors jump right off the walls.
Gil Emerson grew up in Oregon and the Eastern shore of Maryland, both places having a major influence on his desire to paint wildlife. He studied at the Maryland Institute of Art and became an illustrator for Westinghouse. In 1955 he joined the staff of National Geographic where he worked as a staff artist and later Assistant Chief of Geographic Art. His wildlife portraits are so realistic the viewer cannot help but be awed by Emerson’s details.
Jo Pate, a resident of Selma, AL, is a true artist in multiple mediums-watercolors, oils and clay. She has brought her ceramic angels to the Gallery. She began pottery making while living in Gainesville, GA with hand building classes in 2000 at the Quinlan Art Center. Pate started creating angels and nativities in 2005 while living in Dadeville, AL. There’s a special angel waiting for you at the Gallery.
Kay Donges, now residing in Suches, GA, brings another dimension of nature through her stunning professional depictions of marine items from Maine, or local fly fishermen, or of ubiquitous local cows. A former Art Education high school teacher, Donges work is on permanent display at the “Art of the Sea” Gallery near Rockport, Maine. Her work is bright, clear, and colorful. Come just to see something a little less Appalachia and something ocean-fresh!
Celebrating the natural world, artist Maya Redfeather of Hayesville, NC layers and layers her oil-based colored pencils to create gorgeous works of art. “Most of my art is of birds and animals because, since I was a child, they have been my friends and teachers”, says Redfeather
Pat Aube Gray lives in Blairsville, GA. Pat’s art career has included fine art, commercial illustration and graphic design. The winner of numerous national, regional and local awards, Pat paints landscapes, still life, and figurative works, and her award winning portraits are much in demand. She executes the majority of her work in oil and watercolor but also paints with egg tempera, conte and graphite. See her gorgeous repertoire on her website www.pat-aube-gray.com.
