ELDER LAW & ESTATE PLANNING (Simulcast) by Eddy Corn

This course focuses on 3 areas: Medicare Qualification, Estate Planning, and Trust and Probate.
MEDICARE AND ASSET PROTECTION
Class 1 will focus on the payers of long-term care, particularly Medicaid eligibility. Pre-planning vs. Crisis Planning and how Married Rules differ from Single Rules. The program will be taught using case study examples and applying the rules to hypothetical families.
ESTATE PLANNING
Classes 2 and 3 will focus on the documents you need in place to allow your trusted agents to assist you in the event of illness or incompetency and following death. We will discuss how to use Health Care Agents and Financial Powers of Attorney to avoid expensive court proceedings. What is a Financial Power of Attorney, is there more than one type? Designation of Health Care Agents - How to give directions for health care and end of life decisions.
TRUST AND PROBATE
Classes 4 and 5 will review the advantages and disadvantages of a revocable or irrevocable trust. Class 4 will review What’s So Bad About Probate. We will discuss what is Probate and how it can be avoided. Probate Notice Requirements, dealing with Creditors, duties of a Personal Representative and closing the estate. Class 5 will discuss Is my Trust Trustworthy. We will discuss: the purposes of Revocable and Irrevocable Trusts. When a Trust is advisable, viewing your Trust as a personal rulebook, and Selecting a Trustworthy Trustee.
Eddy is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) in the State of Georgia since 1982 and still maintains his CPA license. He is an attorney licensed to practice law in three states – Georgia, North Carolina and Florida. Eddy passed the Florida Bar Exam in 2014 to be admitted to practice law in Florida in an effort to better serve our second-home community. Eddy’s practice concentrates primarily in Elder Law, working in the areas of Wills, Trusts, Estate Planning and Probate and Trust Administration.
