When the Sun Disappears - Course Instructor Lauren Albin
In this course we will discuss the ins & outs of solar eclipses. When you leave this course, you will understand why and how eclipses happen, how they have been interpreted by different civilizations, and what special solar features to safely look for during a solar eclipse. The number one goal is to give you all the information you need to know about the upcoming 2023 North American annular eclipse and the 2024 North American total solar eclipse. Since Young Harris, GA is not in the path of totality for either of these eclipse events, but in the path of partiality, we will go over how to view a partial eclipse safely from here in North GA & Western NC. ISO certified Eclipse glasses will be provided.
Lauren Albin earned her MS in Space Studies with an emphasis in astronomy from American Public University and her MFA in poetry from Arizona State University. She is director of the O. Wayne Rollins Planetarium and instructor of astronomy at Young Harris College. Before stepping into her role at YHC, she worked as a staff astronomer at Fernbank Science Center in Atlanta and taught English and Creative Writing at Agnes Scott College in Decatur, GA.
