Mountain Regional Arts & Crafts Guild Press Release FROM: Julia Beeman 706-970-9256 jamaisplus@windstream.net SUBJECT: May Artist of the Month at ArtWorks PUBLICATION DATE: For Immediate Release. PLEASE INCLUDE IN: email blast and calendar events ? if space permits, otherwise as you have room. ? MAY ARTIST OF THE MONTH AT ARTWORKS ArtWorks, a local Art and Gift Gallery, is pleased to announce the featured artist for May, Joyce Clair of Blairsville, GA. The Gallery is owned and operated by the Mountain Regional Arts and Crafts Guild, Inc., a local non-profit organization dedicated to promoting the arts and crafts in the mountain communities. Joyce uses dramatic lighting and pure colors in a representational, impressionistic style. While her works have been influenced by watercolor master, Edgar Whitney (1891-1987), she began painting seriously in the early 1990's, taking classes at the Corcoran School of Art in Washington, DC, followed by weekly painting sessions at the Maryland College of Art and Design with Dr. Morris Green. Her passion for watercolor was pursued in workshops with Frank Webb, Zoltan Szabo, Skip Lawrence and Tom Lynch, well-known American watercolorists. Joyce loves sharing her enthusiasm with students. In her beginner classes, regularly offered at ArtWorks in Hiawassee, the Blue Ridge Mountain Arts Center, in Blue Ridge GA, and Helen Art & Heritage Center in Helen GA, she demonstrates control of watercolor while encouraging students to allow it to flow with beautiful, spontaneous results. For "non-painters" she hosts a "Wine, Women and Watercolor Party", where participants complete a guided painting while socializing. Joyce's recent interest in alcohol inks on ceramic tile has led to fun-filled classes making coasters and trivets. A member of the Mountain Regional Arts and Crafts Guild, Mountain Arts Association, Southern Appalachian Artist Guild, North Georgia Arts Guild and the Blue Ridge Mountain Arts Association, her paintings may be viewed at ArtWorks in Hiawassee, Art N' Antiques in Blairsville, Brasstown Valley Resort, The Blue Ridge Mountain Arts Center, and the Helen Arts and Heritage Center. To learn more about Joyce's classes and others available during May and June at ArtWorks, please call 706-896-0932 or visit our website, www.artguildstore.com. Classes for adults are available at ArtWorks throughout the year. The Children's Summer Program is offered every summer. In 2015, thanks to the efforts of the Guild's Joyce Clair, a grant from the Georgia Department of Economic Development's Georgia Council for the Arts (GCA) and generous matching local contributions enabled some children in our area to enroll in free classes. MRACG, a non-profit organization, was established to provide an opportunity for local persons with interest in the arts and crafts to participate in, promote and maintain the development of arts and crafts in the mountain area, and to share their knowledge and skills with the community. The Guild meets the second Tuesday of the month at 6 p.m. at the Calvary Alliance Church in Chatuge Harbor shopping center in Hiawassee. Visitors are welcome. #### Thank you in advance for including our events in your email blast and calendar of events. If I can be of further assistance, please let me know.
