Come out and join us for the Meeks Park Ribbon Cutting & Trail Dedication on Saturday, October 2, 2010 at 11:00am
There will be a total of three dedications:
The newest bridge (arched) in the park over Butternut Creek will be dedicated to the late Clyde (Cuz) Bruce, who proudly maintained the park for nearly 12 years. He passed away in January of 2010.
The second bridge will be dedicated to a long-time resident of our community, Jim Dobson. Mr. Dobson not only was incredibly active in the community with the Chamber of Commerce and many other civic organizations, but also was the Associate Professor Emeritus of Agronomy and Superintendent of the University of Georgia's Georgia Mountain Experiment Station. He retired in 1991 after 38 years of service and passed earlier this year.
The third dedication will be to the Ab Colwell Family. This is the family that sold the property to the county where the new trails were placed. Ab & Grapelle Colwell were lifetime residents of Union County and would be honored to have their property passed on for preserved recreational use.
Please plan on attending as the county honors the memory of these wonderful community members with a dedication ceremony and ribbon cutting. In case of rain, the ceremony will be held at the Haralson Memorial Civic Center.
