Once each month, Poets and Writers Reading Poems and Stories is held at the Folk School in the Keith House Living Room. Two members of North Carolina Writers Network West read their original work for an audience of Folk School students and the community. These writers and poets come from all over the southwestern mountain area of North Carolina, north Georgia and South Carolina. The featured readers for this month’s meeting are: Jo Carolyn Beebe Jo Carolyn Beebe's stories are based on oral family history handed down by her grandparents and great grandfather. Their tales were rich in Civil War and the rural south experiences. Jo Carolyn is a genealogist. She combines the love of research and writing to give life to the past. Among her credits: Abington Press, Lights in the Mountains, Main Street Rag and others. Estelle Rice Estelle Darrow Rice is a native of North Carolina. Estelle, who holds a masters degree in Counseling now teaches writer's workshops on the art of looking into one's self to find that bit of prose or poetry that lives within all of us. She is the author of Quiet Times, a book of spiritual poems, inspired by the mountains. She has also been published in several anthologies.
