The State of the Water was initiated in 2012 to provide local government leaders and the public with new information about water quality in rivers, lakes and streams locally. At this free event the executive director discusses water quality concerns and highlights any new data and findings from the past year. New data from federal and state agencies is presented, along with data collected by HRWC staff in priority watersheds and findings from data collected by volunteers through our extensive Adopt-A-Stream program network. Although the location of the meeting rotates to a different county each year, the information presented is for the entire 4-county area of the upper Hiwassee River watershed.
Our annual meeting is typically held in conjunction with the State of the Water. In this portion of the program, Coalition staff members provide an overview of what we’ve been working on in each program area (Monitor, Restore, Educate, & Connect) and a summary of our future plans. Those in attendance are given the opportunity to provide input into our priorities for the coming year.
This event is offered annually to the community free of charge. Refreshments will be served.
