With Spring knocking on the door it’s time to start filling up your social calendar and here’s an exciting and educational activity to include. On Saturday, May 12, 2018, commencing at 1100hrs, the John B Derden Civilian Conservation Corps Museum at Vogel State Park will be hosting the Annual Civilian Conservation Corps History Day. The event will begin with a history of the CCC on a Federal, State and Local basis. Then CCC Boys (even at advanced age they are proud to be called “CCC Boys”) in attendance, descendants of CCC Boys, and other members of the audience will be asked to share their personal stories related to the CCC. This is an “open mike” session and over the years has proved to be a very interesting segment of the day. There will be hands-on demonstrations and attendees are encouraged to try their hand with a number of the tools the Boys used to reshape our nation. Continuing a great Southern tradition, there will be food.
The CCC has a deep history in the North Georgia Mountains. The program touched many families and was a key ingredient for surviving such difficult times brought on by The Great Depression. You will be amazed at the accomplishments these young men attained throughout the country in order to take care of themselves and their families
