“Ain’t What It Used To Be,” at TCWC What goes around comes around. It is a familiar cliché, but for Amy Hensley and husband Zeke Watkins it’s the foundation for their business, “Ain’t What It Used to Be”. They will be the featured program guests at the Tri-County Women’s Connection luncheon at Monet’s Café on Wednesday, August 3rd at 12:00 noon. Amy, originally from Epworth, north of Blue Ridge, and Zeke, raised in Calhoun, are both Georgia natives. Amy has been an RN for 27 years. She is a graduate of Brenau Women’s College in Gainesville, Ga, with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing, and currently is employed with Kennestone Hospital. Zeke is a Senior Procurement Specialist with Mohawk Industries. In 2007 Zeke purchased a small candle company, and began making candles at home. At the same time, Amy started making earrings. A void opened in their lives when their son moved away to attend Savannah College of Art and Design. They filled that emptiness by creating repurposed and unusual items using ideas from Pinterest, as well as original ideas. As their home filled with projects, candles, and beads, they decided they needed to start a business! Their search for a store led them to an abandoned church in downtown Blue Ridge, making their store itself a repurposed project! The store features such unique and rebuilt items as crutch shelves, dressers repurposed into benches, clay vase heads that hold earrings, and much more. Located at 304 West First Street in Blue Ridge, the store is open Friday through Sunday, and by appointment at 706-851-7636. Babs Hawks of Woodstock, Ga, will entertain us with two songs before she shares her story with us. She is a retired Physical Education teacher and coach, who recently relocated from Arizona. She and her husband are active supporters of the Etowah football Program, and have a grandson on the team! She was crowned Ms. Senior Arizona in 2002, and was the first runner up in the National Ms. Senior America Pageant. She will hold us spellbound with her story, “Life Is Like a Roller Coaster”. Please make your reservations to attend by Monday, August 1st, and bring a friend or two! The cost of $11.00 is all inclusive. Please pay by cash or check. Call or email Jocelyn, jowabow@aol.com or 706-781-1537 or Betty, bgtaylor169@yahoo.com or 706-745-2248 to reserve your seats.
