"Women of Valor Quilt" To Visit Hiawassee

WOMEN OF VALOR QUILT TO VISIT HIAWASSEE TUESDAY, AUGUST 9”

HIAWASSEE, GA---The Mountain Regional Arts and Crafts Guild, Inc. will host the nationally renown “Women of Valor Quilt” that travels the country telling its inspirational story of outstanding women on Tuesday, August 9, 2011, at 6:30 p.m. at the Senior Center Building in Hiawassee, behind the Courthouse. There will be a short social time with refreshments from 6 to 6:30 p.m. prior to the meeting and presentation.

             The Atlanta based Breman Museum’s Women of Valor quilt will be accompanied by Ms. Pat Pugrant, Museum Educator and Quilt Project Coordinator, who explains the historical and inspirational stories of 11 outstanding Atlanta women from 1850-1950. The eight and a half foot by five foot appliquéd quilt is housed at The Breman Museum in Atlanta and is one of the museum’s most popular traveling exhibits. Ms. Pugrant will provide background information about these individuals whose stories provoke people to serve others and to act so as to better the lives of others just as the 11 honored in the quilt did.

             Guild President Linda Bell says, “ The Women of Valor Quilt’s actually coming to Hiawassee is a huge honor for our organization and I hope non-quilters will attend just to learn about these exciting women and hear the history that went into this project. We moved the meeting to a larger room so more people can attend. I think it will be our largest attendance of the year. Come early for a good seat.”

 The Mountain Regional Arts and Crafts Guild, Inc. is a private, not for profit organization founded in 1988 to promote and encourage arts and crafts in the region. The Guild has over 75 members, many of whom teach classes and sell their hand-crafted items in the retail outlet called ArtWorks Artisan Centre, which opened in 2006 in a store front behind the Holiday Inn Express in downtown Hiawassee.
