Cedar Grove Grass (Traditional bluegrass) will perform Friday, July 22nd at 7:00 pm at the Old Courthouse on the square in downtown Blairsville.
Good, traditional bluegrass music is coming back to the Old Courthouse on the Square on Friday, July 22 with a concert by Cedar Grove Grass. The program begins at 7:00 P.M.
Cedar Grove Grass got its name for the community where, for years, Ruth West and her late husband, Gene, hosted music in the Cedar Grove Community Center. Ruth lives part of the time in Blairsville and part of the time in Fairburn. She sings tenor and plays the doghouse bass. She is also the pianist for her church.
Tommy Nations plays guitar, mandolin, and sings lead. He has played with a number of bands over a thirty-year span. These bands include The Ridge Runners, Honey Creek Boys, Big Country, and the Raccoon Creek All-Stars, as well as Cedar Grove Grass.
Gene Terry has played guitar for over forty years and sings both lead and bass. He also plays the banjo.
Don Winebarger from Monticello, GA plays banjo. He has played with a number of bluegrass bands over the years, and still does.
Cedar Grove Grass is on a mission to keep traditional bluegrass music alive by playing and promoting it in its original style.
The summer concerts are presented by the Union County Historical Society as a public service and to keep alive the tradition of music in The Old Courthouse. There is never an admission charge; the musicians donate their time and talents. Voluntary contributions to the restoration fund are always welcomed and appreciated.
