BLAIRSVILLE GARDEN CLUB LANDSCAPE SEMINAR Thursday, March 27, 2014 at Haralson Memorial Civic Center, Blairsville, Ga. an educational seminar, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Cost is $22 per person which includes morning coffee, snacks, and lunch. Come and enjoy a day of learning about the benefits and natural beauty of native plants and fauna as part of Georgia's natural resources. The Seminar will feature regional well known speakers who are experts in the topics they bring. Terry Johnson, retired botanist with Ga. Department of Natural Resources Non Game Division, is an expert on many species. He will speak about hummingbirds, "Glittering Fragments of the Rainbow", and Bluebirds, "The Birds That Wear the Sky on Their Backs". Kathryn Litton, local Garden Club member, and expert on wildflowers will speak on Native Plants for Pollinators, showing native plants available locally that are used by butterflies, bees, and other insects as food sources. Z Ganaway, long time Georgia Garden Club member is a registered environmentalist and expert on butterflies. She gives her time and talents to teach about the importance of this mariposa family, especially the monarch. Robert Brewer, Extension Agent from Towns County is an expert on honeybees, and is a certified world judge in Great Britain and Wales. He will round out the speakers list on bees and their role in our society. In addition to great presentations there will be exhibits by local businesses in the field of horticulture related items, where you can shop for their products and get information. Also educational exhibits will be available to answer your questions and give information on their topics.
