Mark your calendar now for the NSDAR Old Unicoi Trail Chapter-sponsored Genealogy Workshop Saturday, January 21, 2017. The workshop will be held at Union County Public Library at 10:30 am – 12: 30pm. Mary Ann Foster, Chapter Registrar will conduct the workshop. Attendance is limited to the first 50 participants – first come, first serve. The focus will be the NSDAR’s Genealogical Research System, an online genealogical portal containing thousands of family history materials collected by the DAR since its founding in 1890. Here you will find collections of databases DAR has made available online including genealogical information pertaining to Revolutionary War ancestors, descendants of those Revolutionary War patriots, past DAR members, and an online catalog for the sources found in the DAR Library. The GRS allows access to information about participants in the Revolutionary War and their descendants. The records in the GRS can be used as a window into the stories of people who contributed to the founding of our country. The information contained in the GRS databases demonstrates the variety of different kinds of actions, big and small, performed by a variety of people, that contributed to establishing our independence. More than just the Founding Fathers and other famous Revolutionary War heroes from this time, the GRS provides information about the thousands of everyday people who also contributed to shaping our nation.
